The Hon. Sir Peter Bristow Scholarship was instituted in 1978 to help barristers "to study the workings of the institutions of the European Communities in the places where they are established and in particular the workings of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg".
The Harold G. Fox Education Fund was established in 1966 to build relationships between lawyers in Canada and the Middle Temple. Each year, the Fund sponsors two scholars to undertake a ten-month placement in a law firm in Toronto. These scholarships are now open to members of all the Inns.
The scholars are each awarded C$43,500 together with reasonable travelling expenses to and from Canada. Two lakeside furnished apartments in Toronto, minutes from the CN Tower, are owned by the Fund and are provided for each scholar at a subsidised cost of C$800 per month.
Middle Temple supports and participates in the Pegasus Scheme, which is administered by Inner Temple. Scholarships are available to tenants or employed barristers of each of the Inns up to five years' practice as a barrister (not including pupillage). Scholarships usually start in July and last for three months, but arrangements are necessarily dependent on what is suitable to the host firm.
