CommonLII The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute provides a search facility for free core legal information from the whole Commonwealth, covering 756 databases from 59 countries, including the English Reports 1220-1873.
There are over 9,000 early printed books in the Rare Book & Manuscript collection. Many of these books were present in the library when it was catalogued, first in manuscript form in 1684, and again in 1700 in the printed Bibliotheca Illustris Medii Templi Societis.
Middle Temple Library possesses one of the largest collections of American legal materials outside the United States. This extensive collection is located on the third floor of the Library. The Middle Temple has always enjoyed a close relationship with the United States with links going back to Elizabethan times.
Middle Temple endeavours to make the Inn and as many of its buildings, facilities, services and publications as accessible and as inclusive as possible for all of its guests and members.

As part of our celebrations of South Asian Heritage Month 2024, this edition looks back at the varied student experience of the Inn’s early Indian members, highlighting the strength of their faith and dedication.
Investigating the recordkeeping practises of earlier generations at the Inn and the how documents gradually moved from the Treasury to their final home in the Archive Repository.
This month we will look at the history of Middle Temple, quite literally, through the window exploring their involvement in the Inn's history through the stained glass in Hall, window taxes, repair works and unwitting participation in misdemeanours around the Inn.
The Library offers a document delivery service to members of the Inns of Court who require documents remotely. Priority will be given to requests made for judicial purposes.
The service runs from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday. During regular opening hours, staff will do their best to provide a turn-around time of two hours, depending on the size of the request and the order in which it was received.
Please ensure you make your request to one Inn library only; the Library will not respond to duplicate requests.

The Library runs regular legal research training sessions available to all Inns of Court members.
All sessions qualify for CPD under the CPD rules’ learning objectives as Legal Knowledge and Skills.
We also offer legal research training as Qualifying Sessions, which can be delivered in and outside of London, remotely or in-person.
