Vacancy: Pre-Pupillage & Pre-Training Contract Paralegal Role at CANDEY

20 May 2024

On offer is a unique opportunity to join a forward thinking and fun litigation boutique firm of solicitors, barristers and New York attorneys in Lincoln's Inn. You will have finished or are finishing your academic studies and may or may not have secured pupillage or a training conract for 2024 or 2025.

CANDEY is a leading litigation law firm specialising in high value global commercial disputes. The firm regularly appears in the High Court, appellate Courts, and in International Arbitrations, acting against the world's largest law firms.

With offices in London, New York, Vienna and the British Virgin Islands, you will be based in London. Your role would be varied and challenging, working in a collegiate and friendly team under the supervision of dynamic senior lawyers. We have a busy practice, and the nature of our disputes means that we are often in court. Your responsibilities would include drafting letters, pleadings, witness statements and applications, legal research, analysis, and opinion writing, preparing bundles, carrying out disclosure review, attending court, and working closely with our barristers, solicitors, pupils and trainees.

All previous occupants of this position have had an almost 100% success rate in securing pupillage, or a training contract either with us or elsewhere. This is an opportunity to obtain real skills and experience that might distinguish your application for pupillage or a training contract. Many former paralegals have commented that as a consequence of undertaking this role they have been ahead of other pupils and trainees in interview and that it also greatly assisted in securing tenancy or a job on qualification.

We are offering 12 to 24 month contracts commencing September 2024. We are looking for exceptional candidates at the start of their legal careers. You should ideally have a First, a Distinction on the GDL (if applicable) with intending barristers having an Outstanding grade obtained or expected on the BVS.

You must have completed your pre-qualifying academic studies or are completing the BVS, be technically excellent, commercially driven with initiative and able to thrive in litigation environment. Above all you will have a sense of humour and be a team player.

Please contact Recruitment@candey.com with a very short covering email and a copy of your CV if you think this sounds of interest to you.

For the avoidance of doubt, all applications for pupillages are considered equally in line with the BSB policies and guidelines. The pre-pupillage paralegal position simply gives an applicant the practical experience to improve their chances of success via the Gateway. This is no guarantee of success and absolutely no preference offered to paralegals who apply for pupillage with us.
