This Qualifying Session will address the professional, ethical imperative for racial justice and access to justice in the legal system. Equity and inclusion bolster the rule of law, justice, and democracy. Lawyers bear a unique obligation to strengthen and sustain the rule of law in a constitutional government. Thus, lawyers must address the exclusion of people and communities because of race or poverty and advocate for the inclusion and empowerment of everyone governed by the law.
Jeffrey R. Baker is a Clinical Professor of Law at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in Los Angeles, California, where he serves as Assistant Dean of Clinical Education and Global Programs. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Alabama State Bar, and the Mississippi Bar, and he has twenty years of experience in diverse legal practice. Through the Pepperdine Community Justice Clinic, he currently serves and represents nonprofits, charities, international and foreign NGOs advancing human rights, economic development, and social justice in the US and abroad.
