Full Title: Professor Nigel WeatherillCategory: Honorary Bencher Bench Call Date: 26.3.2018 Bio: Nigel Weatherill DL DSc FREng FRSA graduated in Mathematics and after some years in industry began an academic career that has seen him hold senior positions in the UK at both Swansea and Birmingham Universities and then around the world, including Adjunct Professor at the US National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centre in Mississippi and Scientist-in-Residence in Singapore.
He has had national responsibilities, including Executive Director of the National Higher Education STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Programme for England and Wales. In September 2011 he was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Liverpool John Moores University.
He holds a number of positions outside his role as Vice-Chancellor. He is Honorary Colonel of the Liverpool University Officer Training Corps and a trustee of the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool, and the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition Trust. He is on the Board of the CBI North West Regional Council, the Local Enterprise Partnership for the Liverpool City Region and the Arts Council (North). He was appointed Chair of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in November 2015. He is an Honorary Member of the Liverpool Medical Institution.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2003 and is an Honorary Fellow of Swansea University.
In April 2016 Professor Weatherill was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside.
He is married to Barbara and has two children, George and Laura. |
