Masters of the Bench

Honourable Ms Justice Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi JA, FPMA, is a Justice of the Court of Appeal in Sierra Leone. She was called in 2001. She graduated from the Roehampton Institute of the University of Surrey (as it then was) in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later from the University of Liverpool with a Master of Laws degree in International Finance and Banking Law.

She practised at the Chambers of Wright & Co and Banda-Thomas & Co in Sierra Leone. She was a prosecutor at the Law Officers’ Department and later at the United Nations Special Court for Sierra Leone (as an independent prosecutor) between the periods of 2004 and 2008.

She worked as the Head of the Legal Department and Company Secretary of the Guaranty Trust Bank (SL) Limited between 2009 and 2015. She briefly headed the Legal Department of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Sierra Leone. She was appointed a Judge of the High Court, where in a span of 5 years she sat in the Commercial, Criminal, Civil and Anti-Corruption Divisions. In July 2020 she was elevated to the Court of Appeal. She lectured Ethics at the Sierra Leone Law School and now lectures Commercial Law.
