Full Title: Sir Peter LaneCategory: Ordinary Bencher Bench Call Date: 31.10.2018 Call Date: 29.7.1979 Bio: Sir Peter Lane was called to the bar of Middle Temple but subsequently became a solicitor, which required him to be disbarred. He worked in the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel for five years, drafting a wide range of government legislation, as well as law reform bills for the Law Commission.
In 1985, he entered private practice with a firm of solicitors and Parliamentary Agents in Westminster, where he drafted and promoted private bills and subordinate legislation for private and public sector bodies, with an emphasis on infrastructure projects.
In 2001, he became a salaried immigration adjudicator and in 2003 he was appointed a Vice President of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal. As a result of legislative changes in the field of immigration and asylum, his title changed to that of a senior immigration judge in the Asylum and Immigration Chamber and then to a Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber (UTIAC).
In 2014, he was made President of the General Regulatory Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal and, in 2016, a Deputy High Court Judge.
In 2017, he became a High Court judge in the Queen’s Bench Division and President of UTIAC.
