StewartCategory: Honorary Bencher Bench Call Date: 6.4.2017 Bio: Chief Judge Stewart was educated at Dillard University and Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as a military lawyer in the United States Army. From 1985-1994, he served as a Louisiana state court trial judge and appellate judge. By U. S. presidential appointment in 1994, he began federal service on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and is currently its Chief Judge. Since 2003, he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Inns of Court and is currently president. In 2007, he was a symposium speaker at the 400th Anniversary Rule of Law Conference, Jamestown, Virginia. He has participated in Amity Visits to Middle Temple in 2011 and 2014. From 2014-16, he participated in the Opening of the Legal Year of England and Wales in London. In 2015, he was a panellist in COMBAR'S Global Law Summit and the Magna Carta Celebration and Rededication of the American Bar Association Memorial in Runnymede, England.
