He is the immediate past Chairman of the Council of the Bar of Ireland 2014-2016. He is Chairperson of Irish Rule of Law International, a joint venture rule of law charity involving the Bar and solicitors’ professions of Ireland and Northern Ireland. He is also Adjunct Professor in commercial law, administrative law and product liability at University of Limerick. At the time of his appointment to the High Court, David was the Bar’s nominee to the Legal Services Regulatory Authority. He was Co-Chair of the IBA’s Forum for Barristers and Advocates 2015-2017 and a member of Board of the Courts Service and of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Board. A Fellow (now Judicial Fellow) of the International Society of Barristers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was educated at Blackrock College, UCD and The Honorable Society of King’s Inns in Dublin. He was called to the Bar in 1990 and became a Senior Counsel in October 2006. He has been a Bencher of The Honorable Society of King’s Inns since 2012. He became a member of the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in July 2016 and joined 20 Essex Street Chambers as a non-resident member. |
