Masters of the Bench

Dr Brewer is British High Commissioner to South Africa.  She is a career diplomat who has held senior public sector appointments both inside and outside the Diplomatic Service.  Previously held posts include Chief Executive of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Director General for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Director General for Regional Programmes at the Department for International Development.  She has previously served overseas in New Delhi, Paris, and Mexico City.  Nicola has a BA in English, a PhD in Linguistics and an honorary Law degree from the University of Leeds.  She has been a Trustee of the Pilgrim Trust since July 2008; and is a member of the Judicial Diversity Panel, chaired by Baroness Julia Neuberger, established by the Lord Chancellor in May 2009.
