Full Title: Miss Kate Grange KCCategory: Ordinary Bencher Bench Call Date: 9.7.2020 Call Date: 26.11.1998 Bio: Kate Grange KC grew up in Nottingham where she attended inner city state schools. She read law at Cambridge University (Queens’ College) before joining the Bar. She has practised throughout at 39 Essex Chambers. Her broad practice encompasses public and private law with particular emphasis on national security, human rights, immigration, tort, commercial and construction law. She spent several years on the Attorney General’s panels, including defending the Security and Intelligence Agencies in the wake of the Snowden disclosures. She took silk in 2017 is currently one of Lead Counsel to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, where she leads on all construction related issues. She also recently appeared in the landmark public law case of Privacy International [2020] AC 491. Kate has taken a particular interest in equality, including the retention of women at the Bar. She helped establish the Bar Nursery Association in 2003 and thereafter sat on a working party seeking to encourage the Inns to address the retention of women. She is currently a Bar Council “maternity mentor” and also Chair of Governors at her local state primary school. Kate was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2019. |
