Masters of the Bench

Michael Birt was appointed Bailiff of Jersey in July 2009.  Michael moved from England to Jersey with his parents at the age of three.  After education in Jersey, at Marlborough and at Cambridge, he was Called to the Bar in 1970 and practised in London chambers until 1975.  He qualified as an Advocate in Jersey in 1977 and was appointed a Crown Advocate in 1987.  He became Attorney General of Jersey in 1995, when he also took Silk.  After five years as a Law Officer, he joined the Jersey Judiciary as Deputy Bailiff in 2000.
