Guy Roots KC was called to the Bar in 1969 and took silk in 1989. He is a member of Chambers at Francis Taylor Building, Temple. He specialises in planning, environment, and other local government subjects and is a recognised expert on compulsory purchase and compensation, rating and other land valuation matters. He acted for the promoters of the London Olympic Games 2012, Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Crossrail, Wembley Stadium Link, Greenwich Peninsula, Terminal 5 Heathrow and other major projects. He has appeared in numerous cases concerning compensation and rating valuation in the Lands Tribunal and Court of Appeal in UK and in Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal. He is the General Editor of ‘The Law of Compulsory Purchase’ (Bloomsbury Professional) and Ryde on Rating and the Council Tax (LexisNexis).
