He was educated at Kings School Canterbury; History Scholar, Trinity College, Oxford followed by (i) research into Human Rights in Anglophonic Africa; (ii) Legal Research Unit, Bedford College, London University, (papers on prerogative writs) in liaison with Law Commission; before being called to the Bar in 1975. Astbury Scholar 1976. Common law / administrative law pupillage followed by common law tenancy. Specialised in serious fraud (prosecution and defence) since 1989. Tony was Head of Chambers at 4 Brick Court 1988 -1999, sat on the Bar Council Remuneration Committee 1994-1997 (Vice-Chairman 1995-7, 2008-9; Chairman 2010-11) and the Assistant Recorder/Recorder 1997-2006. Tony is a contributor to various journals: contributing editor to Archbold, Criminal Pleadings and Practice (1989 to date) and contributor to and Deputy Editor of Fraud (OUP).
