Masters of the Bench

Giles was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and University of Virginia Law School. He captained the University Boxing Team and continues to participate in a wide range of sports and hobbies at varying but diminishing levels of competence. After pupillage, he became a member of Pump Court Tax Chambers and has practised at the Revenue Bar since 1985, taking silk in 2003. Much to the bewilderment of his friends and family, he confesses to finding tax law "interesting and enjoyable". He has given up trying to explain why. He is married to Maha, an inner city GP, and they have three adult sons. Outside family and the law, his main interest is education. He is a Governor of the John Lyon Foundation and a trustee of the John Lyon Charity, a charity which seeks to promote the life chances of children and young people through education. He is also the chairman of the Governors of The John Lyon School.
