Full Title: Miss Susan Rodway KCCategory: Ordinary Bencher Bench Call Date: 30.6.2009 Call Date: 23.7.1981 Bio: Susan Rodway is a well-known clinical negligence, personal injury and sports lawyer. She was educated at Cheltenham Ladies’ College and King’s College London. She was lucky enough to be awarded a Scholarship by the Inn at the start of her career and recognises the enormous help this gave her. In return, Susan sits on a number of Scholarship Interview Panels for the Inn, as well as helping with Moots and Advocacy Training. She has been instructed in a wide spectrum of civil and commercial litigation, arbitration, and in numerous leading cases arising out of clinical negligence, catastrophic injuries, group litigation, professional negligence and international sports arbitration, particularly arising out of motorsport, cycling or equine competition; including anti-doping issues. She is an accredited mediator, and was a member of the Clinical Standards Committee for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (1998-2001). Chambers & Partners have said of her: ‘She’s outstanding, and not to be messed with. Her advice is straight to the point and she doesn’t take any prisoners’. Susan has combined a full-time career with bringing up a family of four children. Not all of her contemporaries were so lucky, and many left the profession. She enthusiastically endorses the initiatives at the Bar which have made the juggling of professional and private life much easier for women. She is a keen equestrian and motorbike rider and has a reputation for being ‘a bit of a petrolhead’, driving racing and supercars on and off track. There are many solicitors with stories of Susan arriving at court on her motorbike and marching to the robing room in full leathers, to the astonishment of her clients... thankfully to emerge soon after properly wigged and gowned! She took Silk in 2002 and was elected a Bencher in 2009. |
