Masters of the Bench

David Casement was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His formative years of living through “the Troubles” led him to value the importance of equality before the law and the parity of esteem with which all people should be held.

In 1991 David graduated from Oxford where he was President of the Oxford University Law Society and was called to the Bar as an Astbury Scholar.

David’s commercial law career began on the Northern Circuit. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 2008. His part-time judicial career commenced in 2005 as a Recorder and then in 2013 he was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge.

In 2013 David co-founded and became Chairman (UK) of the British Irish Commercial Bar Association whose chairs and committee are drawn equally from the UK and Ireland.

The majority of David’s practice is commercial and chancery litigation and arbitration. He also holds various appointments in sport: Judge of the International Court of Appeal of the Fédération Internationale De L’Automobile, Regulatory Commission and Appeal Board Chairman of The Football Association, Specialist legal member of the National Anti-Doping Panel, and Sport Resolutions’ List of Arbitrators.
