Masters of the Bench

Fionnuala McCredie read Geography at Manchester University. She then worked in property development for Servite Housing Association, providing rental accommodation for those in housing need. While at Servite, she took a part-time Masters in Public and Social Administration at Brunel University. Having decided that the barristers had the best fun in the world of development and construction, she went to Middlesex Polytechnic and converted to Law.

She was a pupil at Keating Chambers with Lord Justice Coulson, Master Darling  and Dr Robert Gaitskell KC and then at Serjeants’ Inn Chambers with James Watson KC, where she was taken on as a tenant. She practised at Serjeants’ Inn for 16 years, mentored by Philip Naughton KC, Lady Justice Davies and Master Whitfield.

Fionnuala’s professional career has focussed on construction and engineering work. In 2008, she returned to Keating Chambers where she expanded her practice to include procurement work.

Fionnuala has been active at the Inn for many years, with the primary objective of increasing the diversity of the people coming to the Bar and promoting opportunities for under- represented groups. That started on the Scholarships & Prizes Committee and led her to the Finance & Resources Committee, where she works with other members to secure the Inn’s financial health and ensure Scholarship support for the future.

She is a longstanding member of the Pupillage Hardship Committee, which has a proud record of supporting pupils in financial difficulty into a successful career at the Bar. She also sits on the working party for the re-development of Garden Court.

Outside the Bar, Fionnuala has retained her interest in social justice, sitting on the boards of various Housing Associations, including Coin Street Community Builders, where she continues on the Development Committee.

Her partner is Michael Mylonas KC and she has two daughters. Fionnuala shares their love of horses and eventing and is to be found in all weathers providing support as driver, groom and ‘major’ (only) sponsor. Her great passion is skiing, which she enjoys whenever she can.
