In his junior practice, he was standing counsel to the Office of Fair Trading for nine years, and prosecuted many cases about unfair trading agreements, including cases ending the long-standing UK bans on discounting books and over-the-counter medicines. He took silk in 2006. His main practice areas include EU, competition/regulatory, public and environmental law. He now sits as a deputy High Court judge in the Queen’s Bench Division.
He is passionate about environmental protection, and has represented environmental groups in campaigning litigation for many years on issues ranging from the protection of wild dolphins in the North Sea, to the capping of aviation emissions across the EU and worldwide to combat global warming. He is currently involved with a local group in South End Green seeking to save a historic local pub, the Magdala Tavern. Outside the law, his recreational interests include books, squash, film and family. |
