Masters of the Bench

Jane specialised in family law at an early stage in her career having worked as a social worker before she was called to the Bar in 1988.  She was a member of the Family Law Bar Association committee for a number of years and was appointed as the barrister member of the Family Procedure Rules Committee.

In 2003, Jane was appointed a Recorder and a Circuit Judge in 2013.  She sits as a family Judge in the East London Family Court sitting at Croydon and was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016.  She established, with her colleagues, the Family Drug and Alcohol Court in Sussex and Croydon.  Jane is the Circuit Judge member of the Family Justice Council and a family tutor for the Judicial College.

She is particularly keen to support students who may not have ready access to a professional network and organised a work shadowing scheme for students studying law at the University of Westminster.  She is an advocacy trainer and hopes to make a wider contribution in due course as a Bencher.
