The beauty of the piano as an instrument lies within its range of colour: the ability to re-create the sound-world of any ensemble – whether it be a symphony orchestra, string quartet or solo voice. This programme highlights the instrument’s capacity for singing, exploring fantasy pieces across hundreds of years: from the intimate musings of Haydn and Schumann to song transcriptions by Liszt and Thomas Ades, culminating in the proud declamations of Chopin’s great Polonaise-Fantaisie.
About the performer
Described by Peter Donohoe CBE as having “the potential to become a major voice in the classical music world,” Madeleine Brown is emerging as one of the most compelling young pianists of her generation. A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, she now studies with Kathryn Stott at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she won the prestigious Gold Medal Competition and was awarded the RNCM Silver Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Madeleine has achieved international recognition, including first prize at the 2025 Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition, and further honours in Vigo and the Royal Overseas League Competition. An accomplished concerto soloist, she has won major competitions at both RNCM and Cambridge. Highlights this season include debuts at Wigmore Hall, the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, and on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
