AI and the Future of Healthcare: Breakthroughs, Rules and Risks | Tuesday 9 June 2026

Clifford Chance, in collaboration with 1 Crown Office Row, is pleased to invite you to an evening discussion and reception on the next phase of AI in healthcare.

AI-enabled healthcare is rapidly moving from experimentation into real-world deployment. As adoption accelerates, so too do the commercial, regulatory and accountability questions that will shape how quickly these technologies scale.

This event will bring together senior voices across technology, healthcare, investment and policy for a conversation on what comes next and what it means in practice.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Philomena Cleobury, Assistant General Counsel, UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) – an expert on international law, offering perspectives from UNHCR's work providing remote healthcare opportunities for refugees and displaced people.

  • Chris Sherwood, Chief Executive Officer for NSPCC – a leader in the non-profit sector with a strong track record in driving innovation and organisational transformation.

  • Professor Hatim Abdulhussein, Chief Executive Officer for Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex, Honorary Professor of Innovation and AI – a leading clinician in the safe, ethical adoption of AI in healthcare, with a distinguished track record shaping digital workforce strategy across the NHS.

  • Dr Saira Ghafur, Director of Digital Health at the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial, co-founder of Prova Health and Pysma – a leading expert and entrepreneur in digital health, with a focus on cybersecurity, evidence generation for digital health and the value of healthcare data.

  • Professor Gordon Wishart, Chief Medical Officer and CEO, Check4Cancer – a leading clinician and innovator in early cancer detection, with direct experience developing AI-driven skin cancer diagnostics for real-world settings.

  • Robert Kellar KC, 1 Crown Office Row – a leading barrister specialising in healthcare regulation and clinical liability, advising on complex medico-legal risk and accountability.

  • Dr Gunnar Sachs, Partner, Clifford Chance – a senior regulatory lawyer advising global companies on digital health, AI governance and the evolving European regulatory landscape.

Further speakers from across industry and policy will be announced shortly.

Discussion will focus on:

  • Where AI is already delivering impact in healthcare and pharma, and what is coming next
  • How the regulatory landscape is evolving in the UK and Europe
  • The key legal, ethical and commercial risks emerging at scale

The evening will conclude with a drinks and canapés reception, offering an opportunity to connect with peers across the healthcare, technology and investment ecosystem.
