Three Middle Templars Appointed to the Order of the Garter

27 April 2026

We’re delighted to announce that three Middle Temple Benchers have been appointed to the Order of the Garter by His Majesty King Charles III. They are:

Former Chief Justice Lord Ian Burnett of Maldon
Lord Hennessy of Nympsfield
Former Cabinet Secretary Lord Gus O’Donnell

We congratulate them on this huge honour.

The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, founded in the 14th century. It is personally bestowed by the Sovereign to recognise those who have helped public office, contributed to national life or have served the sovereign personally. It is limited to 24 members at any one time.
