Middle Temple Hall will be temporarily closed in 2026 while the iconic double hammer beam roof undergoes its 10-yearly inspection.
We hope to reopen in time for our “Re-opening of the Inn” Private Guest Night on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, and we will give an update closer to the time.
The work will involve installing a birdcage scaffold to allow for visual inspection, measurement, structural survey, and cleaning of the roof timbers.
Whilst the scaffold is in place, we will also remove and clean the armour, remove and inspect the pictures, inspect and carry out any repairs to the stained glass, clean the carved screen and redecorate the walls above panelling level.
The Hall entrance and vestibule floor will also be stained and repolished.
Tours, dining in Hall and Bench Apartments will not be available during the works, but we hope to see as many of you as possible in the Garden Room during the usual lunch hours for an expanded offer. Masters of the Bench are welcome to lunch in the Garden Room Meeting Room, which has been reserved for them throughout the Hall closure.
