Bio:
Born and educated in North Wales, having completed his Bar vocational training at the Inns of Court School of Law in London, Matthew was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in October 1999. He was a pupil at Sedan House Chambers (now Linenhall Chambers) in Chester, where for over twenty years he practised both in criminal and public family law. In 2018, Matthew was appointed as a Recorder authorised to sit in the Crown Court and the Family Court. In August 2022, he was appointed as a Circuit Judge, deployed to sit in Crime, based at Manchester Crown Court, Minshull Street. Matthew is one of the Chairs of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Church in Wales. He is a nominated Diversity and inclusion Liaison Judge on the Northern Circuit and a member of the committee of HM Council of Circuit Judges. Matthew remains an active member of the Middle Temple Northern Circuit Society Committee, seeking to promote the work of the Inn amongst members who study and practise in the North.
