His Honour Judge Michael Hopmeier
Called in July 1974, Michael sits as a Circuit Judge at Southwark Crown Court, on economic crime and confiscation cases. He has been an advocacy trainer for some years and regularly marshalls students of the Inn. He lectures at the Judicial College and also regularly trains Judges overseas at international seminars on Confiscation and fighting economic crime. He is as an Honorary Visiting Professor of Law at City, University of London and an Honorary Professor of Law Practice at University College London; he has also been Honorary Professor of Law at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He is a Diversity and Community Relations Judge in London. He also sits as a Deemster on the Isle of Man sitting on trials and on Appeal. He is an editor of the Chapter on Money laundering in Halsbury’s Laws of England. He serves on the committees of the Wadham College Oxford Law Society and the European Criminal Lawyers Association (ECLA UK). Michael is co-Editor of the 6th Edition of Millington and Sutherland Williams on “the Proceeds of Crime” published by OUP in 2023.
