Bio:

Stephen was called in 1995. He was a pupil at 1 Mitre Court Buildings (which later moved to 1 Hare Court). He was lucky enough to be taken on at the conclusion of his pupillage and spent his time thereafter practising in the money side of Family Division work. In 2015 he took Silk and in 2016 he became a Recorder of the Family Court, and subsequently a Deputy High Court Judge.  He became Head of Chambers at 1 Hare Court in 2022 and was made a High Court Judge, assigned to the Family Division, in 2024.  Such success as he enjoyed as a barrister was largely down to the hard work of others and unwarranted respect afforded to him by his opponents and tribunals.  Since becoming a judge he has constant cause to reflect on the high quality and importance of the bar to the running of the justice system.
