The Bar Council and the Law Society will be hosting two parallel seminars for international bar leaders and practitioners on  Tuesday 30 September 2014, 10:00 – 12:00. Registration from 09:30 at Inner Temple.

The financial crisis – coping with the aftermath.

This session will explore what litigation has come before the courts in different jurisdictions around the world since 2008 as a result of the financial crash, as well as whether regulatory reforms are now making a difference in terms of the reliable delivery of financial services.  You will hear from a mixed panel of distinguished UK practitioners and international bar leaders, including Jeffrey Golden, LSE and P.R.I.M.E., Gregory Mitchell QC, 3 Verulam Buildings, Amanda Pinto QC, 33 Chancery Lane and Dorothy Livingston, Herbert Smith Freehills.

The UN Guiding Principles on business and human rights: the case for action by the legal profession.

The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights were unanimously endorsed in June 2011 by the UN Human Rights Council. They are now widely viewed as the authoritative global reference point for the respective roles business and governments play with regard to ensuring business respect for human rights.

This session will examine the benefits for the legal profession of being engaged and aware of the UNGPs both as providers of legal services, and as businesses themselves. The expert panel will include Peter Rees QC, 39 Essex Street, Nicole Bigby, Berwin Leighton Paisner and Pip McKenzie, Unilever.

This free event is expected to be accredited by the Bar Standards Board and the Law Society.

The seminars will be followed by a networking lunch from 12:00 to 14:00 in the main hall at Inner Temple.
