Case Law on UNCITRAL Texts (CLOUT) A large database on cases under texts of UNCITRAL dealing with international investment business law. Records include a link to an abstract of the case, information regarding the relevant legislative text (with links), the national court in which the case was heard and a link provided if available online.

Reports of International Arbitral Awards A systematic collection of International arbitral and judicial awards published by the United Nations.

Commercial and Business Law

Doing Business Law Library An online collection of freely available business laws and regulations with links to official sources where available. Different jurisdictions are covered with laws on various topics such as banking and credit, bankruptcy, companies, labour, securities, taxation and trade. Translations are unofficial unless otherwise stated.

Company Law

Companies House: WebCHeck All limited companies in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland are registered at Companies House. The Companies House WebCHeck service enables you search for information on companies free of charge. You can also use WebCHeck to view a company's filing history and purchase copies of documents and company reports.

Company Law Club From Company Law Solutions Limited, a firm based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which provides company registration services. There is database of company law which can be searched and browsed as well an annotated list of UK companies legislation. A newsletter provides recent updates.

Competition Law

Competition Appeal Tribunal For full text of judgments in appeals and details of other applications and claims involving competition or economic regulatory issues.

Competition and Markets Authority This site covers the work of the Competition and Markets Authority which was formed in April 2014 by the merger of the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading.

Ecclesiastical Law

Ecclesiastical Law Society The Ecclesiastical Law Society exists to promote the study of ecclesiastical and canon law particularly in the Church of England and those churches in communion with it.

Employment Law

ACAS The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service website covers employment topics, press releases and publications.

Employment Appeal Tribunal Includes full text of EAT judgments transcribed since 1999 and selected judgments from other hearings, plus practice directions, cause lists and information on procedures.

Employment Cases Update Includes full text of relevant judgments, including those in the Employment Appeals Tribunal court.

LabourWeb EU labour laws, including case law and legislation, in one place, from the Center for the Study of Labour Law, an Italian organisation.

NATLEX The International Labour Organization's database of national labour, social security and related human rights legislation. There are over 88,000 records covering 196 countries and over 160 territories and subdivisions. Records provide full texts or abstracts of legislation and citation information. Full text of the law or a relevant electronic source is linked to the record.

Environmental Law

ECOLEX The ECOLEX database combines the environmental law information holdings of FAO, IUCN and UNEP. You can find information on “treaties, international soft-law and other non-binding policy and technical guidance documents, national legislation, judicial decisions, and law and policy literature.” For each document located, there is an abstract and indexing information as well as the full text if available.

Family Law

David Hodson's Family Law blog Provided by the English solicitor David Hodson who specializes in family dispute resolution, find articles and lectures on numerous family topics such as the law relation to children, alternative dispute resolution and others.

Family Lore Focus Produced by John Bolch, a UK based solicitor specialising in family law. Includes a digest of family law cases with links (where available) to original sources – often linking to the transcript on BAILII.

Family Law Week News of recent cases and legislation, articles and resources on all aspects of family law. The site is free but registration is required.

Transparency Project A registered charity which aims to ‘set the record straight’ regarding family law issues reported in the media. The website provides comments on cases which have appeared in the news, and contain a proper legal explanation with links to the judgment.

Human Rights

Council of Europe Treaty Office For texts of Council of Europe conventions in English, French, Italian, German and Russian, and chart showing signatures and ratifications.

European Court of Human Rights Information about the Court and judgments free on date of delivery on HUDOC database.

Human Rights Blog - 1 Crown Office Row An initiative of 1 Crown Office Row. Contains reports and commentaries dating back to 1998, as well as articles prepared by members of chambers and a commentary on the ECHR and HRA. Requires registration (free).

International Court of Justice Cases referred to the ICJ since 1946, information about the Court and basic UN documents, including the Charter.

Legislationline Free-of-charge online legislative database created to assist OSCE participating States in bringing their legislation into line with relevant international human-rights standards,

Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission A statutory body established by the Northern Ireland Act 1998, in compliance with the Good Friday Agreement, to ensure the full protection of the human rights of everyone in Northern Ireland.

University of Minnesota Human Rights Library Houses one of the largest collections of over 60 thousand core human rights documents, as well as 4000 links.

Red Cross From the International Committee of the Red Cross, this site provides free access to the full-text of treaties concerning international humanitarian law (IHL). There is also a database of national implementation: https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/applic/ihl/ihl-nat.nsf and customary IHL: https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/customary-ihl/eng/docs/home

Women's Human Rights Resources Programme (WHRR) From Canada, this site collects, organizes and disseminates information on women's human rights law to facilitate research, teaching and cooperation.

Immigration and Nationality and Asylum

Asylum Case Database Trom the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies based at the University of California Hastings College of the Law in the US, this free source provides summaries of selected US asylum cases.

Davidson Morris Immigration blog This blog from the law firm Davidson Morris offers comprehensive and informative content covering all aspects of UK immigration law, including real time updates on changes to legislation as well other issues related to global immigration.

European Country of Origin Network (ECOI) A gateway for country resources for asylum and refugee lawyers, including reports and national laws.

European Database of Asylum Law (EDAL) Managed by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), the EDAL contains case law from 22 European states interpreting refugee and asylum law as well as from the CJEU and ECtHR. EDAL summarises relevant case law in English and the Member State’s national language and provides a link to, and/or pdf. of, the full text of the original judgment where available.

Immigration and Asylum Tribunal The only authoritative public source of IAT/AIT determinations.

Newsletter for European Asylum Issues Designed for judges who need to keep up to date with European developments in the area of asylum, contains European legislation and jurisprudence on four central themes regarding asylum: (1) qualification for protection (2) procedural safeguards (3) responsibility sharing and (4) reception conditions of asylum seekers.

Refworld A collection of material provided by the agency of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). There are links to international instruments as well as national laws and EU material related to refugees and nationality.

UK Visas and Immigration A Home Office website devoted to matters relating to immigration, nationality and asylum.

5RB - Expert case reports and judgments From 5 Raymond Buildings, this site contains reports and judgments in the latest and leading cases in media and communications law.  

The International Forum for Responsible Media (Inforrm) blog Covers media law, data protection and press regulation. Also provided are case comments and very useful tables of cases (with links to transcripts on BAILII if available and other case comments on external sites) concerning media law, privacy and data protection, as well as information on forthcoming cases in these areas.

Espacenet The European Patent Office offers access to European and worldwide patent applications from 1836, in original language and English abstract.

WIPO Lex World Intellectual Property Organization’s searchable database of intellectual property national laws & treaties.

International Law

Electronic Information System for International Law (EISIL) Developed by the American Society for International law to ensure easy access to primary materials, authoritative websites and helpful research guides to international law on the internet.

International Criminal Court This site contains basic documents, such as the Rome Statute, information on the Court and its cases, Rules of Procedure and Evidence and job vacancies.

International Investment Agreements Navigator From UNCTAD, this is a comprehensive database of international investment treaties and model agreements.

United Nations Treaty Bodies jurisprudence database Provided access to jurisprudence emanating from the United Nations Treaty Bodies which receive and consider complaints from individuals: the Human Rights Committee (CCPR), the Committee against Torture (CAT), the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED), the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), and the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Maritime Law and the Law of the Sea

International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea Based in Hamburg, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) is a judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. In English and in French, the site provides proceedings and judgments from the case onwards, along with statutes, rules, regulations and the text of the Convention.

Maritime Knowledge Centre of the International Maritime Organisation The online Maritime Knowledge Centre of the IMO (International Maritime Organization) provides access to resources on maritime safety, security and prevention of pollution from ships as well as other maritime related issues

Mental Health Law

39 Essex Street - Court of Protection cases Site maintained by 39 Essex Street Chambers, includes a searchable database of cases relating to mental capacity law.

Garden Court Chambers blog Provides updates on recent case-law and policy, written by Garden Court barristers specialising in adult social care, children’s services, Court of Protection (health and welfare), housing and homelessness, and welfare benefits.

Mental Health Law Online resource on mental health law in England and Wales. Contains legislation, case transcripts and other material relating to both the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Mental Health Act 1983.

Personal Injury

Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority Includes online guides to the scheme and application forms, with details of the appeals procedure and relevant forms.

Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal Successor to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP), provides access to appeal decisions, rules and legislation, as well as court.

Real Property

Land Registry: Find a Property The Land Registry's 'Find a property' search enables you to identify registered titles to land and to purchase copies of title registers, title plans and Flood Risk Indicator results. Other registered estates that may affect land, such as titles of tunnels, pipelines, mines and minerals and airspace leases, may also be identified by searching the index map. 

Sports Law

Tribunal Arbitral du Sport – Court of Arbitration for Sport An independent arbitration body set up to settle sports-related disputes. The site includes transcripts of the most recent decisions.
